Basic Laparoscopic Surgical Skills Training Course in General Surgery and Gynaecology

Saraswathy Institute of minimal access surgery is a centre par excellence in Saraswahy hospital, Parassala, Trivandrum.  Saraswathy hospital was started in 1992 as an evening clinic. Now it is a 200 bedded multi specialty hospital with Saraswathy College of Nursing offering B.Sc nursing and M.Sc nursing courses, as our sister concern.

Minimal access surgery was started here way back in 2002.

It slowly grew and developed into a centre for advanced laparoscopic surgery, metabolic surgery and bariatric surgery. It has been giving informal training to surgeons over a decade.

Now SIMAS is launching formal training programme in Basic laparoscopy for Practicing Surgeons and Gynecologists.

This academic programme is a well structured course with Endo training sessions, wet lab and OT exposure.

The centre routinely performs 80-90 cases per month including Basic ,advanced laparoscopic procedures, and Bariatric surgery procedures.

Mini gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Endoscopic Thyroidectomy, Minimally Invasive Video Assisted Thyroidectomy (MIVAT) are it's high lights.

 

COURSE CERTIFICATE

A certificate accredited by IAGES and ASI will be issued on the successful completion of the course and the name will be published on the institute's official website.

a. Basic exercises for gaining depth perception, hand to eye coordination & tactile sensation

b. Cobra drill for camera control and for gaining hand movements control

c. Intra & extra-corporeal knot formation

d. Tension-free Ligation and division drills & exercises

e. Interrupted suturing

f. Continuous suturing with starter & termination knots

g. Demonstration of Endo electro surgery principles- HOOK- LOOK & COOK

h. Pedal control techniques for attaining coagulation at low temperature

i. Trouble shooting techniques

At the end of this course each trainee should be able to:

• Safely introduce and pick up a 3/8ths curved  in an appropriate position to make a bite through tissue.

• Pass a needle and suture through tissues at suitable depth and distance for interrupted and continuous suturing

• Tie a safe laparoscopic Surgeon’s knot

• And demonstrate continuous suturing with great ease and confidence.
