Dr. S.K.  Ajaiyakumar was born at Karode, a village near Choozhal boarding Kerala and Tamilnadu.His parents were the Late Saraswathy Amma and S. Krishnan Nair. Both of them were teachers. B. Saraswathy Amma was a very gentle, noble and pious teacher of that period. She was very popular and loved by everybody. She was suffering from all complications of Diabetes from a very young age. Thus Little Ajaiy witnessed all those sufferings of his mother. His childhood was mixed with many hardships. He was the only son of his parents. Saraswathy Amma had lost her 4 children due to diabetes before she gave birth to Ajaiy.Infact, he spent majority of his primary school days in hospitals, along with his mother. When he was  only 13 years old, his mother passed away. This made him take a pledge that he would become a doctor and would do some things to make the life of those ailing souls better.

He had his schoolings from local Govt. schools. He joined for MBBS in Govt Medical College Trivandrum. He passed out in 1989. He had completed Master of Surgery from the same institution. His keen interest in diabetes continued.

He got special training in Laparoscopic surgery and Diabetic foot management. He was trained in the prestigious Tata memorial hospital , Mumbai on Breast Cancer Management.

Saraswathy Hospital, Parassala is a 200-bedded multispeciality hospital erected by him in memory of the Late Saraswathy Amma Teacher.

Dr. S.K.  Ajaiya Kumar is a national Faculty of laparoscopic training in India. He is practicing laparoscopic surgery to cure obesity, diabetes and other allied conditions like high BP, high cholesterol – namely Metabolic surgery and Bariatric Surgery.He has presented many papers in National and international conferences.

His services for helping humanity include a DIABETIC CLINIC held on the first sunday of every month since 2000, where 100-150 patients get free treatment. Diabetic awareness is created very effectively in this clinic. He is involved in many charitable activities related to diabetes. He has a scheme where poor patients are given financial assistance for their treatment, called SARASWATHY HASTHAM.  He has adopted 6 villages for their diabetic control and treatment is given to them free of cost, called DIABETES CONTROLLED VILLAGES PROGRAMME. He has completed a mega programme on Diabetic awareness with the help of diabetic clinic patients in over 52 villages where awareness programmes were conducted.He runs a charitable primary health centre namely B SARASWATHY AMMA MEMORIAL CHARITABLE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE in a village called Karode , where primary health care and diabetic care are given free of cost. He has conducted 302 awareness programmes on breast cancer and 952 programmes on Diabetes among the public. He has implemented a novel scheme of adopting two young girls who had lost their parents in thier childhood and built a new house for those girls called SWAPNABHAVANAM  (Dream House)

He is an expert Laparoscopic surgeon, Bariatric surgeon, Metabolic surgeon and a Diabetic foot specialist. He is the one, who started Laparoscopic surgery in sub urban and rural Trivandrum for the first time.

He runs a very well equipped Diabetic foot management Department with state of the art technology in foot care with modern equipments where a number of patient’s legs are saved from amputations. He is probably the surgeon to have treated maximum number of diabetic foot patients in South Kerala & Tamilnadu. In the last 5 years he is concentrating in the surgical treatment of obesity and diabetic patients where laparoscopic surgery is performed to control obesity and diabetes.

He has been honoured for his yomen services in the field of diabetic care, at a function in connection with WORLD DIABETIC DAY - 2011, received Indian Medical Association GOLDEN CARE AWARD-2015,  GRAMMENA PURASKARAM- 2014 award and Kerala State Embroidery workers union AROGYA RETNA AWARD- 2011.

Scope of Work

• He conducts Surgical OPD weekly from 9 a.m to 3 p.m where 50 - 75 patients requiring Surgical Management are examined.  Conducts operation twice weekly where Major Operative procedures both open and Minimal Access Surgeries like Bariatric Surgery  ( Mini Gastric Bypass), Endoscopic Thyroidectomy,  Minimaly invasive Video Assisted Thyroidectomy (MIVAT) are performed in addition to advanced procedures like Fundoplication, Rectopexy, Total Lparoscopic Hysterectomy, Intestinal Resections etc.Also performs  Basic laparoscopic procedures like Appendicectomy, Cholecystectomy, Ovarian Cyst excision etc.
•  Was  convener of monthly meeting of the Faculty of Surgical Science, which is a joint forum of all surgeons in Trivandrum Medical College Hospital like  General Surgeon, Thoracic Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon etc.
•  Engaged in undergraduate and Post graduate teaching conducting regular demonstration classes, bed side demonstration etc. acted as research guide for two post graduate students each year.
